The Art of Shaping A Concept Car
Oct 5, 2024

When I first moved to Burien, I met a neighbor who lived across the street. One of the first things I learned is that he wanted to start his own car company called Strickland Motor Co. A friendship built and years later, the dream is finally becoming a reality. And I jumped at the opportunity to help him document his journey.
That friend, dreamer, and neighbor is Silas Strickland. He ambitiously set a goal to finish his concept car in the 75 days leading up to the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show, or for car enthusiasts, simply SEMA or SEMA Show. And adding more to that ambition, he and his brother, Stone Strickland, decided to also document the Strickland Motor Co. journey on Instagram.

As Silas anticipated, there is desire for this type of content. The Strickland Motor Co. Instagram account is growing by the day, receiving hundreds of thousands and even millions of views on their videos. Long before that success, I planned a video shoot with Silas in his shop. And we recently tackled that content together.
My video production and content creation company works in different ways. We can bring a load of equipment and experienced personnel for full blown production, but we can also simplify things by shooting videos with an iPhone. And believe it or not, when using the correct settings, an iPhone can create high quality content. And for the Strickland Motor Co. video, we went the nimble route, shooting with only an iPhone.

To capture the Strickland Motor Co. video, I used an iPhone 15, Insta360 Flow gimbal, and intended on using my RØDE Wireless Go II microphone. Unfortunately, there was a faulty charge on the transmitter, so I instead captured my interview with Silas on the Voice Memos app. I then enhanced the audio in Premiere Pro.
The storytelling focus of the video is “The Art of Shaping a Concept Car.” And I think the Strickland Motor Co. video proves once again that iPhones are a powerful content creation tool. It’s inexpensive and they can create high quality content, which is a powerful combination in the world of video.
At last check, the video has more than 121,000 views on Instagram. It was posted several months ago, and that number keeps growing as likes, comments, and shares continue to accumulate.
I feel extremely fortunate to do what I do for a living. I get to create every single day. Throw in creating content with a friend, and I can’t even explain what a joy that is. Seriously, it was some of the most fun I’ve ever had creating content and I have been doing that at Moarly Creative for years now.
I hear the same thing at when I attend events with the associations I am a part of: “I know I need to create content, but {enter a reason}”. I get it, time is short and we’re all busy, but I highly encourage you to start creating. Just do it. And you can start by simply using your iPhone. If that’s too much of a lift, my video production and content creation company is here to lift for you.
